5 Fun Loving Valentine’s Day Songs for Kids

These 5 fun loving Valentine’s Day songs for kids are enjoyable to sing along to.  Not only are they fun to sing, but the activities, body motions, and instrument parts that go along with each song help children learn about music while having a great time doing it!  Children will listen to the song and learn the words and then do the game, body percussion parts, or dance that go along with it.

Love Somebody

I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, but I won’t tell who.

I love my mama, yes I do.  I love my mama, yes I do.  I love my mama, yes I do.  I love my mama, and she loves me too.

Love my papa, yes I do.  Love my papa, yes I do.  Love my papa, yes I do.  Love my papa, and he loves me too.

I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, yes I do.  I love somebody, and they love me too.

After hearing the song and learning the words, here is a fun game to play with it.  If you have ever played musical chairs, this activity is really similar.  You lay enough hearts on the floor for enough kids except for one.  While walking around the circle and patting a steady beat on their legs, the students have to stop on a heart when the music stops.  Whoever is out walks to a rhythm instrument or sits on the floor while still patting the beat on the legs or instrument.

You are my Sunshine

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.

You make me happy when skies are gray.

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you.

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

This song is so much fun and easy to learn.  Children will learn the motions that go with the song.  For sunshine, put your arms above your head to make a circle as a sun.  On the “you make me happy” part, smile really big while pointing at your mouth.  During “you’ll never know dear how much I love you”, wave your finger in the air like you’re telling someone no, then draw a big heart in the air with your fingers.  Then, while singing “please don’t take my sunshine away”, shake your head no and draw another sun in the sky.

Skidamarink

Skidamarink a dink a dink.

Skidamarink a doo.
I love you.

Skidamarink a dink a dink.
Skidamarink a doo.
I love you.

I love you in the morning.
And in the afternoon.
I love you in the evening.
And underneath the moon.

Skidamarink a dink a dink.
Skidamarink a doo.
I love you.

While singing the song, kids can play a shaker or rhythm instruments to play the rhythm of the song.  The rhythm is the way the words sound.  During the instrumental part where there are no words being sung, kids can improvise while making up their own rhythms to play.  Then, when the singing comes back in, go back into playing the words of the song while singing.

If You Love Me and You Know It

If you love me and you know it, blow me a kiss
If you love me and you know it, blow me a kiss
If you love me and you know it,
And you really want to show it
If you love me and you know it, blow me a kiss

If you love me and you know it, give me a hug
If you love me and you know it, give me a hug
If you love me and you know it,
And you really want to show it
If you love me and you know it, give me a hug

If you love me and you know it, say “I Love you”
If you love me and you know it, say “I Love you”
If you love me and you know it,
And you really want to show it
If you love me and you know it, say “I Love you”

While hearing the words “blow me a kiss”, “give me a hug”, and “I love you”, do the motions.  Kids can run to another child or their parent or teacher to act out these motions and switch partners any time a new phrase comes in.

A Tisket, A Tasket

A tisket, a tasket,
a green and yellow basket,
I wrote a letter to my love
and on the way I dropped it.
I dropped it, I dropped it,
and on the way I dropped it,
A little boy girl picked it up
and put it in his pocket.

While learning the song, kids can march to the beat while singing.  After learning this song, kids can color or write a letter to someone they love and can even mail it!
